Conference "Making Work of Quality", January 14th 2015, London (UK)
Circus Futures in association with London International Mime Festival and The National Theatre’s Watch This Space Festival present a one day conference for promoters, programmers, funders and artists to discuss how to support the making of quality performance work in circus and outdoor arts in the UK. The day offers the opportunity to discuss a number of topics including the type of assistance festivals and venues can offer to emerging and established companies, case studies on working partnerships that have enabled performances of quality to flourish - and a few honest moments about what to do when the gap in perceptions of quality between companies and promoters widely differ. Chaired by Orit Azaz.
Venue: Temporary Theatre at the National Theatre, South Bank, London SE1 9PX
Delegates are encouraged to view Black Regent by CircusNext Laureates Knights of the Invisible (UK) Iona Kewney and Joseph Quimby at Southbank Centre’s Purcell Rooms on January 13th 2015. Circus Futures hosted a CircusNext Residency for this company in 2013. Details about the show can be found here.

Circostrada Network organized four European seminars for Policy Makers working in Arts Councils, Ministries in charge of Cultural Affairs or institutions promoting Arts & Culture abroad. The objectives were to give these officers and decision makers the opportunity to know more about political traditions and contexts in Europe and expose them to a series of policies and schemes made available to support the outdoor creation and contemporary circus.
These successful gatherings, organized each time in close partnership with a Member State, allowed experts to explore new connections, compare work methods and exchange good practices to provide the necessary conditions for a sustainable development of our emerging sectors.
This publication, commissioned to the researcher Cristina Farinha, is a first step in collecting information regarding existing support mechanisms, as interesting examples to inspire other European regions or countries.
