Circostrada Network

Circostrada Network is a European platform for the street arts and circus, dedicated to information, observation and professional exchanges. Representing more than 50 members from 17 countries, the network is working to develop the structuring and recognition of these sectors in Europe. HorsLesMurs, French national information centre for street arts and circus arts, is the general secretariat of the network. Created in 1993 by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, it supports artistic activities through observation, documentation, training, expertise, research and publishing.

GDIF2013 Showcase: registrations now open

The professional registrations for GDIF2013 Showcase are now open. This showcase is presented by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in association with XTRAX.

Now in its third edition, GDIF2013 Showcase presents outdoor work from UK and international companies and provides delegates with a chance to learn more about new projects in development, attend seminars and professional meetings, make new contacts and network with street artists, companies and arts organisations working in the outdoor performance sector.

Call for projects: Just So Festival 2014

Wild Rumpus, a not-for-profit social enterprise, is looking to commission three companies to create new work to be previewed at Cheshire’s Just So Festival in 2014 and potentially to tour it in 2014/2015.

Successful companies will receive a commission of £3000, plus production support from Wild Rumpus including mentoring, residential opportunities in an outdoor environment, and the chance to show work-in-progress to audiences for feedback. In addition to the commissioning fee the chosen projects will then be programmed over 3 days, 15-17 August at the 2014 Just So Festival, for a fee of £1,000 exclusive of VAT. The deadline is 30 June 2013.

Opportunities at The Circus Space (UK)

The Circus Space (London) are looking for experienced acrobatics and flying trapeze tutors to work on their participation and outreach projects, which together encompass classes for everyone from young people aged 3 and up through to adults and older people, as well as outreach, recreational activity and progressive training for 11 – 21 year olds.

Candidates should have at least a year of teaching experience (including experience of working with different age groups), plus a proven track record of delivering educational workshops. Preferably candidates will have experience also of devising work and of negotiating the strictures of health and safety in that context. Deadline for applications is 17 May 2013.

Open call: Nordic circus residencies

Thanks to a grant from Kulturkontakt Nord, the New Nordic Circus Network offers two residencies of one month to two different artistic companies.

One selected company will be welcomed for one month to Subtopia in Sweden (anytime between 1 Sep-15 Dec.), and another one for one month to Cirko Center in Finland (18 Nov-15 Dec). The residency will cover the company´s costs for travels, transport, accommodation and per diems for the whole time period. There will be an artistic mentor and the possibility of production coaching and rigging/technical consulting. The deadline is the 1st of June.

Publication: Fresh Circus #2 - Synthesis of discussions

Circostrada Network publishes the synthesis of discussions of the second edition of Fresh Circus, European seminar on the sustainable development of circus arts, that took place on April 2012 in the Parc and Grande Halle de la Villette (Paris, France). The goal of this moment of reflection and exchange was to formulate a series of practical recommendations to improve the infrastructure and recognition of the sector. The seminar gathered 490 participants from 42 countries.
